 Advantages of Diversity in the Workforce

Today, many companies are trying to hire a diverse staff because of many reasons. some of them are discussed below:

1.)    Diversity encourages innovation: 

  • People belonging from the same backgrounds likely to come up with the similar ideas for a problem-solving.
  • Inversely, a diverse group of people offer different solutions to that problem.

2.)  Diverse teams have been shown to be :

  • more productive
  • more innovative and
  • more creative.

3.) Provides worldwide options

  • Helps to acquire ultimate plans to grow globally. This can be achieved easily if the organisation has diversity in its workplace.
  • Employees from different backgrounds contribute differently and that would enhance the chances of increasing global trade.

4.) Improve company's reputation: 

  • Diverse workforce upgrades the opinions of customers about you.
  • Diverse work environment put an impact on consumer’s mind that the company is global-minded, innovative and united.

5.) Provides better customer service:

  • Employees belonging to different backgrounds or sexual orientation can serve the customers belonging to their category well than others.
     
  • For eg: In service providing sector like banks, there are employees from different backgrounds to assist the customers in their native language which does not understand English well.

6.) Increases talent hub: 

  • Today, most of the candidates prefer to work in an atmosphere which respects the equality.
  • The diverse surrounding at the workplace helps to retain the intelligent and talented employees in their organisation.

7.) Upgrade employees performance (Anonymous, 2018)

    The employees like to work in an environment where they find :
  • themselves treated equally
  • which boost up their morale and
  • they will be more productive.

    Find out how many co-workers of you know more than one different languages.

What is diversity?

Diversity means a variety of things.

And so, Diversity at workplace means a workplace where people belonging to a different race, creed, nationality, sex, religion, etc. work together.

In today's economy, most of the employers try to attract and retain diversity in the workforce. In future, the organizations in which diversity will be managed well will do better in the competition.

Importance of Diversity for an organisation:
  • Employees belonging to different backgrounds will effectively understand the customers.
  • The more differing the workforce is the more probable it is that they'll have the capacity to fulfil the customer's needs.
  • The more diverse will be the ways of thinking of the employees and that will help in increasing the production.
  • More creative talents and ideas will come into the workplace.
  • More set of skill and competencies will come in the workforce (Sharma, 2016).

So, diversity management at a workplace is the key to success.

What is Diversity Management?


It may be defined as including and retaining employees from different backgrounds into the organisation by some policies and programs.

In an organisation, diversity management can be maintained in following ways:
  • Associations need to speak adequately with the employees.
  • Remove language and social boundaries by interpreting materials and using pictures and images at whatever point relevant.
  • Regard every employee as a person and should abstain from making suspicions about workers from a different environment.
  • Motivate the employees to work in diverse groups and esteem each other on an individual basis.
  • Guarantee that all business activities, including discipline, should be followed by every worker within the same way.
  • Avoid discrimination on any ground of age, sex, disability, race, religion etc.
  • Motivate the employees to identify that one’s own culture, understanding and foundation are not by any means the only valuable to the association (Dyson, 2017).
